Specialists of an anti-chemical warfare corps of the PLA Beijing Garrison Command started to use China's most advanced monitoring equipment since Monday to aid the rescue at the core area of the Tianjin blast. The equipment is believed to be able to offer scientific and efficient technological support for the entire rescue operation. "We have rapidly deployed the monitoring system. We put four instruments at the epicenter to monitor the toxic gas around. They are mainly used for gas detection," said Yang Jianglong, an assistant engineer of the corps. According to Yang, the equipment will deliver 24-hour gas information to the monitoring and control station via wireless data link. A device named PPP-3000 is used to monitor the volatile organic compounds, and another device, Handheld-100, is for toxic gas detection, said Li Wang, leader of the corps. Detection results from both devices show that the air was in normal condition. The BioFach trade show is celebrating its 10th year in Japan. Bringing food, textiles and personal care products from around the world into the Japanese market, BioFach aims to promote organic goods that people will enjoy. [Frank Venjakob, BioFach 2010 Organizer]: "Once a consumer is convinced that he wants to buy organic and he understands organic, he will not change his buying patterns although financial conditions might be different, that was a very interesting point last year, 2009." Although the Japanese organic market is small, consumers are starting to recognize the world of organic. [Tatsuo Yamaguchi, Vice Sales Manager, Marusei Shoji]: "Japanese people are picky about safety and having peace of mind. Japanese really like these types of things." Tatsuo Yamaguchi sells sweet chestnuts, Japanese people's favorite traditional snack. [Tatsuo Yamaguchi, Sales Vice Manager, Marusei Shoji]: "Seven years ago we went to China with JAS organic certifiers and developed a JAS certified factory in China. We then brought in JAS certified Tianjin sweet chestnuts to Japan and started selling them." International sellers at BioFach are here to tap the Japanese market. Organic gummies from PEZ in Austria will soon have a special place in Japanese children's heart, as well as parents. [Duco Delgorge, Mie Project President]: "Here's one full option: organic gummies and they don't have any artificial flavors or colors. It's based on natural and organic fruits, so it's really great for the children. The children love them, and the parents are happy buying it for them." And how about organic food for your pet? Dr. Sergio Canello from Italy makes pet food with meat from organic farming and fish from non-intensive farming: the healthy organic diet for your cat and dog. [Dr. Sergio Canello, SANYpet]: "Our formula is based on sea fish; sea fish is useful for two reasons. One is the high value of the fish, the second is fish is rich in omega 3, the first thing is that the fish is not derived from intensive farming, and you can avoid the problems that are linked to this use." Going back to nature and avoiding agrochemicals and pesticides might seem difficult these days, but people like Frank Venjakob are moving forward to make it possible. [Frank Venjakob, BioFach 2010 Organizer]: "If you go around and talk to the exhibitors, they're extremely proud of what they're doing and it's a very common spirit that is linking for the exhibitors here, so we hope that organic is growing worldwide, because we love the exhibitors and we love the products." The BioFach trade show is coming to the U.S. city of Boston in October. Liliana Yap, NTD, Tokyo.

The world is feeling the effects of climate change. Storms are getting stronger, weather patterns are changing, food is becoming scarce, and animals are going extinct at an alarming rate. Fortunately, while there are many people that are continuing to hurt our environment, there are also people out there who are working feverishly to help it. From simple ideas to entire Eco-cities, new ideas are being developed everyday to help improve the environment and our lives. Air Purifying Roof Tiles A big problem with green technology is making it as practical as it is useful. With this in mind, a new trend in practical green technology is the coating of roof tiles with titanium dioxide, which is useful in cleaning the air. Titanium dioxide works as a photocatalyst by oxidizing nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds into soluble nitrates and fatty acids when exposed to UV light. Studies have shown that a thick coating of material on roof tiles reduces 97% of target greenhouse gases, while a thinner, cost effective coat still reduces the target gases by 88%. This means that it could cost just five dollars to coat an entire roof with the purifying compound. One home could remove 21g of nitrogen oxide a day, which is the equivalent of what a car releases driving 18,000 km. Widespread application would allow every home in the world to become a mini-air purifier. The idea is still in the testing phase, but early results have been extremely promising. The lighter color of the tiles also has the added benefit of producing a small cooling effect. There’s also a possibility of producing tiles to remove carbon dioxide, but this would decrease the practicality of the tiles by making the roofs harder to install. Smog-Eating Buildings Mexico City’s Manuel Gea Gonzalez Hospital constructed a 2,500 square meter facade that breaks down air pollutants when exposed to UV light. The honeycomb increases the surface area by 200% and allows the structure to neutralize the same amount of pollutants in one day that’s produced by 8,750 cars. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 → → GET A T-SHIRT - http://shop.spreadshirt.com/toptenz →Top 10 Objects That Were Clearly Invented Just to Annoy Physics: https://youtu.be/0MVGeRa-vLo →Simon's VLOG: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvqt8j7DfPmveJp3UOk9XTg Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Our crackdowns will definitely continue for some time." 12. Wide of boxes of seized DVDs 13. Various of seized DVDs STORYLINE Chinese authorities destroyed some 5.2 (m) million movie DVDs, books and computer software on Monday as part of its latest nationwide crackdown on illegal publications. The pirated products were seized and destroyed by authorities in Beijing and Tianjin, as well as the provinces of Shanxi, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Sichuan. China announced a major nationwide campaign two months ago to crack down on the rampant illegal copying of software, which has been a cause of tension with Washington and other governments over trade and currency complaints. Trade groups say piracy of computer software and movie DVDs has increased in China, despite repeated promises by the government to stamp it out. The World Trade Organisation sided with Washington in January in a complaint that Beijing was failing to enforce patents, copyrights and trademarks aggressively enough. The latest campaign will target illegally copied or phoney goods as varied as software, internet materials, medicines and corn that is falsely labelled as organic. Wang Zhiqiang, a spokesman for the General Copyright Administration of China, said on Monday that all the relevant government departments were participating in the crack downs, which "will definitely continue for some time". Trade groups say illegal Chinese copying of music, designer clothes and other goods costs legitimate producers (b) billions of dollars each year in lost sales. American officials say phoney Chinese-made heart and anti-cancer drugs have been found as far away as Africa. Piracy losses are politically sensitive at a time when Washington and other governments want to boost exports and create jobs. Beijing has increased penalties and launched repeated crackdowns, but foreign governments and trade groups say its enforcement is not strict or severe enough. Some 79 percent of software used in China last year was illegally copied, according to the Business Software Alliance, an industry group.
